We started our Slovak Paradise adventure from the small northeastern Slovak village of Hrabušice, just a short 15 minute drive to our trailhead in Slovak Paradise National Park. Mario and our four-legged friend, Bello, came along on this great adventure.
We felt like we got lucky coming in mid-October; there were hardly any tourists as if we had the park to ourselves and were able to observe the changing colors of the trees.
A rock shelf known as Tomášovský výhľad is popular with both climbers and visitors for its unique view situated at 680 m.
The route ascends to the rock gallery called Tomášovský výhľad with superb views. The pass through the central part of the Prielom Hornádu canyon and the ascent up the tapered gorge of Kláštorská roklina to the grassy plateau of Kláštorisko was awe inspiring.

It was a nice relaxing stroll until this happened… the Hornád Canyon (Prielom Hornádu).
A trail distinguished by its ladders, chains, and bridges to navigate the river, canyons, waterfalls, and steep slopes of rock.
Monastery Canyon
This is a ravine created by a creek springing beneath Kláštorisko peak and flowing directly into the Hornád river. Although it had been known before, it was opened to the public in 1960. The first step that allowed this was the building of a rope at the estuary of the Monastery Gorge, which was the first stage of the process in opening the Prielom Hornádu (Hornád Canyon) to the public.
Monastery Hill
This is the only tourist centre situated inside of the Slovak Paradise NP, which was built there in 1923. At the site of Kláštorisko you can also find reconstructed ruins of the Cartesian monastery from the late 13 century.
