Skógafoss

Is one of the biggest waterfalls in the country with a width of 25 metres (82 feet) and a drop of 60 m (200 ft). Due to the amount of spray the waterfall consistently produces, a single or double rainbow is normally visible on sunny days. Looks like it was our lucky day as we saw multiple throughout the day.

I think we counted 18 or so waterfalls on the Skóga river. Each one of them was equally beautiful yet unique in its own way. It’s an easy hike up and a fun run down.

Sólheimajökull

The glacier “snout” Solheimajokull is the southwestern outlet of the Myrdalsjokull icecap.
It is about 8 km long and 1-2 km wide.

River Jokulsa discharges it, and is sometimes called “The Stinking River” because of its emission of sulphuric acid from sub-glacial high temperature areas.

I wouldn’t recommend climbing onto the glacier unguided and unequipped as falling into crevasses can pose a danger.

We ended our day here at Jökulsárlón which is a large glacial lake in southeast Iceland, on the edge of Vatnajökull National Park. It’s located at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, which developed into a lake when the glacier started receding from the Atlantic Ocean. Icebergs break off from the glacier and melt down to smaller ice chunks, which roll out to the ocean.
