Céad Mile Fáilte

An amazing dish. We ate proper “Céad Mile Fáilte” from our friends Dukat and Lucka who graciously hosted us our first night in Ireland. Rum and becherovka tasting. Baked sausage. Neighbor’s Indian/Pakistani dish.
Capped with a good nights sleep.

The next day we left Dublin and headed out to a very important site in Northern Ireland…

THE KINGSROAD

aka The Dark Hedges

Which came first? The chicken or the egg? We’ll let you decide. Any Game of Thrones Fan can share our appreciation for our mandatory detour to this site in Northern Ireland. We couldn’t help but find ourselves humming the Fire and Ice song under our breath as we walked down the middle of the road. We came at a great time when there were few people there.

GRACEHILL HOUSE

James Stuart built Gracehill House in c.1775 and named it after his wife, Grace Lynd. The family planted an avenue of over 150 beech trees along the entrance to the Georgian estate. It was intended as a compelling landscape feature to impress visitors as they approached Gracehill House. Today this unique, tranquil and spellbinding tunnel of ancient beech trees stretches along the Bregagh Road, intertwining and entangling to create a spectacular fusion of light and shadow.

Giant's causeway

Only a short 30 minutes north of The Dark Hedges was the Giant’s Causeway.
Named a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1986.
It’s an area distinguished by its 40,000 interlocking basalt columns which originated from an ancient volcanic eruption.

According to legend, the columns are the remains of a causeway built by a giant, Finn MacCool.

We got a private showing of this landscape phenomenon. Visitor’s Tip: If you go in the late afternoon on a weekday there are a lot less people after the last tourist bus has left.
We felt like we had whole parts of it to ourselves.

Finn McCool’s Hostel / B&B

We decided to stop here for the night due to its convenient proximity to Giant’s Causeway. It’s a pretty basic accommodation for a cheap price with an impressive view of the north coast.
